Growing Methi/Fenugreek plants in your container garden

Growing methi plants in your garden with limited space is very simple. It is a good source of fresh leaves.

You need to soak some fenugreek seeds in water, say about 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup. I generally soak only 1/4 cup as I need only little to make methi paratha for two of us. Soak it overnight. Remove the water next day and leave the seeds to sprout on its own. You need not worry about the seeds as Nature will take care of it. When the sprouts come out a few inches, it’s time for planting.

There is no replanting involved here. So you can take a medium size pot with normal soil mixture. Believe it
or not, I even planted it in big mineral water bottle. I laid the bottle horizontal, cut a portion of it in the middle, filled with soil and planted methi in that. But it was small in size. Now I have a pot dedicated to methi and coriander. Make sure there is a small hole in the bottom of the pot for draining excess water. Your soil mixture can be in the order (from bottom) of coco peat, red soil, vermi compost, red soil. Sometimes I put sand in the bottom of the pot. I don’t buy coco peat. I just use the one from the coconuts I use in my kitchen.

Now just sprinkle the methi sprouts on the soil. Sprinkle some water on it. Make sure you are not over watering it. Keep an eye on your plants daily. Make sure the soil is not dry. Within a few days you will find young methi plants!
